Private students negotiate the learning materials and teaching style which is best suited to their individual needs.
For those private students with no particular direction or studying goals, John is happy to offer help and guidance. The length of class is one hour and fifteen minutes and costs 5000 Yen. Class times and frequency are by negotiation.

Parents talk with Terumi and John about their child’s previous English learning experience, before deciding which class is best for them. They may then visit the class to see for themselves.
Adults
Adults are offered a free personal assessment interview with John and/or Terumi to help decide their level of ability, future learning needs and goals - before being recommended the most suitable class to join.
All new leaners
All adults and children may take part in or relax and enjoy at least one class free of charge (at any time of the year) before deciding whether to join the school.

Business Profile
John Barrs has significant experience teaching business and conversational English in Ina Valley, including Seiko Epson, NEC and Olympus. His MA is Organisation, Planning and Management in Education and he has published educational research in a very well know and highly respected international journal of education, demonstrating strong awareness of both practical and theoretical models used to help analyse problems faced by organisations which are striving to improve quality. In addition, John has extensive experience of training adults to teach and work in English in developing countries, including the Maldives – where he worked with local and regional government, in partnership with the British council, to help improve the quality of education in island schools. John also worked in partnership with the Ministry of education as project manager to coordinate a tsunami project with funding from Development Cooperation Ireland. As well as being a qualified and experienced UK elementary teacher, John has successfully completed a well known and internationally recognized training course about how adults learn English (CELTA) and now has over ten years teaching experience here in Japan - including delivery of intensive English language courses to help train Japanese Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JICA).

Textbooks
Our learners buy the recommended textbooks and workbooks that are needed in class. Costs for children are approximately 3500 Yen per year. Costs of textbooks for adults are approximately 5500 Yen every 18 months. You can either purchase textbooks yourself (we will give you the details) or the school can purchase them for you at no extra cost.

Customers may pay cash or Lighthouse can set up monthly account trasfer payments, if you prefer.
Number of classes per year
We guarantee you will receive a minimum of 44 classes per year - most learners receive 46 classes per year.
